Three or maybe five kilometers into the hike, it got too much. The heat was unprecedented; right after the rainfall the trails got soppy and so did the hike.

Between the trees and the grass, the sun burned white. Colours visible only in the shadows with nothing to see only green. The leaves, grass and reflection on your face; it dominated, the color of life.

The foliage at its best, many shades absorbed and stewed into a jumbled mess that only the birds can enjoy and us to appreciate. The open fields were not much better. Step into the tall grass, the squishy meadows fill your shoes.

In the swollen vista, naked trees stand out; These barren appendages, broken away by time sit still within its own wreckage. Half-sunken, some upright others contorted, the mellow colour scheme of mint and lime become mushed up.

Our time was up, off to the bland parking lot, leaving behind our footprints and bringing back aching mosquito bites.
